Colman Architects received planning approval in January 2007 to refurbish and extend this property located in the Conservation Area of Ipswich town centre for their client, Commercial Estates Group.
The proposal includes the split of the existing retail unit into 2 shops of 2,000 sq ft and 2,500 sq ft with 8 flats above, organized around a central courtyard.
The building has been designed as a contemporary landmark to complement the historic character of the Conservation Area.
Colman Architects have worked in close relationship with the planners and Conservation Officers to achieve a development that suited the needs of the future tenants, both retail and residential, and that was acceptable in its bulk and expression to the Local Authority.
