The new Vue Cinema was completed and open to the public in November 2009.
The footprint of the new extension to the Kennet Centre occupies the area of a former car park. The extension comprises of a seven-screen, thousand-seat cinema and foyer on the first floor, accessed by lift, stair and escalators, from the ground floor cafes and restaurants.
The structural design comprises a steel frame with concrete slabs poured onto metal decking. The roofing is a combination of lightweight roofing above the cinemas, each with an interior acoustically isolated from the main structure of the building.
West Berkshire District Council sees the cinema development as central to their vision of renewal and regeneration of the Conservation Area of Newbury. |  |
