Maximilianhöfe, on one of Munich’s most valuable retail streets, is a mixed use development with retail and restaurants at ground floor level and offices above.
The boutiques on the main street frontage, including Versace, Dolce & Gabanna and Chopard, are successful but the retail behind this does not benefit from the same retail prominence.
The solution, by Colman Architects, was to develop the more remote retail areas behind the main frontage into a vibrant and exciting square with a sense of destination and a critical mass that would draw customers through the scheme. The transformation of the space would provide extra and better retail space for tenants to trade in and increase rental income from the development.
